Thesis research in the third year

You may start laboratory thesis research in your junior year by selecting a faculty mentor and registering for Tutorial Thesis Research (BIOL-300) during one or both semesters, or during the summer before senior year (if arranged prior to the beginning of summer).

Tutorial thesis research is required of Neurobiology majors.  For Biology and Biology of Global Health majors, tutorial research is an elective that can be applied to the major.

To register

The Tutorial Reseach form (available in the Department of Biology office) will need to be submitted in order to register for tutorial research.  This form details the project plan, readings, meetings and papers. A maximum of four credits can be awarded for Tutorial Thesis Research; the commitment should be about 3-4 hours per week per credit hour.  This form is signed by the student, mentor, Chair and Dean.

Additional credit

Students can apply for additional credit for performing research.  Credits for Non-Thesis Tutorial Research (BIOL 304) cannot be applied to the majors in the Department of Biology, however these credits do apply as College Elective credits towards the course and credit requirement.
