Shirey’s Butterfly Excellence Continues!
This January, Vaughn Shirey from the Ries Lab had two of their papers accepted for publishing! The first paper, entitled A complete inventory of North American butterfly occurrence data, was published on January 20th in Ecography. This important article describes Shirey’s work to analyze the completeness of biodiversity data from museums and community observations. They demonstrated that under sampling of North American butterfly populations has occurred in the regions most impacted by climate change, and propose solutions to these biases. The next paper, entitled Early evidence for sexually dimorphic, ultraviolet eyespots in Parnassius smintheus, outlines Shirey’s research into UV-reflective surfaces on the butterfly species Parnassius smintheus. While this paper is still in press, we are so proud of Vaughn’s work on both papers!
