2020 Chapman Medal winner Ian Yannuzzi publishes his thesis work with Dr. Jan LaRoque!

Major congratulations are in order for Ian Yannuzzi, an undergraduate researcher who graduated last spring after researching in the LaRoque lab. In the lab, Ian studied homology-directed repair, an important method of DNA repair that fixes double-strand breaks in DNA. For his senior thesis, Ian researched the protein CtIP in Drosophila melanogaster to investigate its role in this form of DNA repair. He found that CtIP is essential for DNA end resection, a process key to the beginning of repair. Recently, this work was published in Genes, with Ian as the first author! Congratulations to Ian and the LaRoque lab, we can’t wait to see what he accomplishes at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard!
