Georgetown University’s science departments are making history this academic year!

In order from left to right, the chairs are: Paola Barbara (Physics), Mahlet Tadesse (Mathematics and Statistics), Jennifer Swift (Chemistry), Ronda Rolfes (Biology), Rachel F Barr (Psychology), Lisa Singh (Computer Science)
For the first time, all of the science departments are led by female chairs, marking a groundbreaking moment for the university. One of these trailblazing leaders is Dr. Ronda Rolfes, chair of our very own Biology Department, who joins other accomplished women in shaping the future of science at Georgetown. This milestone not only highlights the incredible potential of women in academia but also serves as an inspiring example for students and other faculty, showing that female leadership is key to advancing academic and professional success. We’re excited to see how this all-female leadership team continues to drive excellence in Georgetown’s science programs and beyond.
