Personalities and Pods: Mann Lab publishes first-of-its-kind study about dolphin personality traits!
Dolphins are amazing, intelligent animals–but do they have stable personality traits? In the Mann lab, this question was the motivation for groundbreaking research about behavioral traits in bottlenose dolphins, culminating in a one-of-a-kind article in Communications Biology. Analyzing decades of data from over 175 dolphins, Dr. Janet Mann and graduate student Taylor Evans examined various social behaviors and their patterns throughout the lives of individuals. Amazingly, they concluded that these traits represent stable personalities that persist over years of the lives of each dolphin.
