CONGRATS TO SAUMYA BOLLAM ON NEW PUBLICATION

Saumya Bollam

Congrats to Saumya Bollam on new publication!

Saumya Bollam, who graduated from the biology department this past spring, recently had her thesis work accepted by Developmental Cell. Her co-first authorship is shared with Yuhao Shi another Georgetown undergraduate studying in the NHS. Sean Laughlin, a former Global Health major, was also a co-author. The article is already online and will be published November 23rd in print.

The article demonstrates how inflammation can slow early development of cancer linked to a mutant Neurofibromin 2 (NF2) gene. It also shows that, once tumors are established, inflammation speeds up their growth. This research highlights both the beneficial and detrimental effects of inflammation.
